The Daisetsuzan National Park encompasses the mountainous region of central Hokkaido. Cold air sweeps down from Sibera picking up moisture off the Sea of Japan making the snow fall light, dry and deep, blanketing the mountains in this region.

“I was introduced to Hokkaido over 10 years ago and I have gone back year after year searching for the deepest snow I can find. And this is it! My deepest days ever have been recorded in this part of the world.”
– Ross Matlock
