This is the second of our Niseko trip offerings and is scheduled over the February President’s Day holiday/school break.  Requests for family focused trips have come in and this is IMA’s response.  With the ski in/ski out location of the Green Leaf Hotel, this Niseko trip favors the family who seeks the convenience of being right there.  The cultural experience, the unmatched ski conditions, the food and the natural hot springs provide for a family ski vacation with a twist -- Japanese style!

Niseko saw snow falls at their resorts this last winter reaching a whopping 16 plus meters of total snow for the season.  With that amount of precipitation it has quickly become one of the powder capitals of the world.  The Niseko area has been a well-kept secret for some time and as a powder ski destination most North Americans overlook it.

We are based in the resort town of Niseko with ski in/ski out accommodations at the Green Leaf Hotel.  Niseko has several ski resorts that when joined with an all mountain ski pass, provide impressive skiable acreage.  The terrain available in Niseko will suit all ability levels and ages -- from backcountry gates that provide access to some great sidecountry skiing to moderate groomers and gentle tree skiing.  For kids of all ages there are terrain park features, and a  halfpipe to explore, as well as a skiing mountain warrior named Kamonohashi to meet.  Expect variable weather in Niseko and be prepared for snow.  It can snow for days on end.  There are several on mountain lunch spots that offer superb Japanese food at reasonable prices, and western food is available as well.

One of the great aspects of the trip is that our Niseko accommodation, The Green Leaf Hotel, has its own natural hot springs on site.  The hot springs themselves are fantastic, not just for the soaking experience, but for the integration into the Japanese onsen culture.  Onsens are separated for men and women, which takes away all barriers associated with mixed bathing and turning it into more of a spiritual experience.   Click here for more on onsens and onsen etiquette. There is no better way to relax after a day of powder skiing than with a hot soak from a natural spring.

Aside from the onsen the Japanese take pride in their food.  It is one of the highlights of the trip.  The Green Leaf Hotel has beautiful Japanese food nightly, with the option of a western or Japanese style breakfast.   At times you have no idea what you’re eating, but you know it’s been prepared just right.
The Green Leaf Hotel sits right at the base of the slopes of Niseko Village, and is located on the bus loop, so travelling into town for dining and shopping is just a short journey away.   Its ski in/ski out location with its own hot springs and fantastic Japanese cuisine provide the perfect location for a ski holiday.
