International Mountain Adventures would like to offer a special trip to the birthplace of skiing and alpinism, and to what many consider the birthplace of modern extreme skiing. The town of Chamonix is within a couple hours of Geneva and so getting from the airport to Chamonix is hassle free.
Our accommodation, Hotel Faucigny, is right in the town itself, which makes site seeing and dining easy. Breakfast will be provided at the hotel, with dinners out on the town. The town has one of the best selections of food, with the regional Savoyard fondue and raclette their specialty. The street side cafes and bars top off a pedestrian focused town and if the need arises the discos and nightclubs take you into the wee hours.
Our focus will be to explore the varying terrain each of the resorts has to offer and to ski some of the classic out of bounds/off piste lines in the Chamonix valley. The first three days we will ski the resorts of the Chamonix valley. There are five in all and every resort is different, offering options depending on weather and snow conditions. Whether it’s the open bowls of the Les Grand Montets or the trees of Les Houches we will find what is right for the group.
The last two days we will spend with a UIAGM International Mountain Guide skiing some off piste Chamonix classics. The Vallee Blanche is an 11km ski descent off the Aiguille du Midi tram and is one of the all time classics in the Chamonix valley. There is a mountain hut half way down for a traditional lunch or picnic, after which we continue to ski, then board a train and make our way to the valley floor to join in the après festivities in town. The second day of off piste skiing is yet to be determined. Perhaps the Pas de Chevre, the Rectaline or a couloir of our guide’s choosing. With many local classic descents in the region, our options are endless when it comes to lift serviced out of bounds/off piste skiing.
This area is a special favorite of Jill’s, as she has spent many months in this valley skiing and exploring. From the skiing to the cafes and restaurants, and some friendly locals, Jill looks forward to sharing the Chamonix valley with you.

PLEASE NOTE:
Like any major resort the skiing can be whatever the weather gives us. The resorts in France do not groom extensively, so your skiing ability level should be proficient enough to be able to ski in variable ski conditions and powder, on blue and black terrain. You should also be able to ski in off piste conditions comfortably. Skiing Levels 7 - 9 preferred.
